Atamnirbhar Bharat which by English translation means Self Reliant India is a catchword created by Janta Government. Everyone has heard this catchword; from mouths of Modi and other politicians associated with Janta party. They are shouting it, speaking about it on every platform and every stage. To their statements and expression, they want to make India self-reliant. They launched policies like Make In India and others and attached them to making Bharat Atamnirbhar. But after all the initiatives, shouting, speeches and Modi’s Man ki Baat, a question arises. The questions are what does Janta Government means by this Self-reliance? Who was or is India dependent on, that they felt the need of making it self-reliant?
The actual meaning behind term Atamnirbhar is not making India self-reliant. It’s removing the government’s liability and stake-hold in many different sectors of the economy. The roots of self-reliance dig deep into the neo-liberal ideals of a purer form of the free market. It’s also comparable to Neo-Right/conservative values if observed from the economic perspective, but not the extreme right. According to Atamnirbhar, the government will remove its share from many sectors and make it more open for private corporations. Removing government’s controlling share gives the private sector a free hand to manipulate the market according to their own needs to gain profits.

Something similar happened with the agriculture sector, as New Farm Laws got passed keeping in mind the needs of private corporations. Now the question arises, why does the government want this to happen? Why give up the controlling share in the sectors which were very important for them and the public?
The Indian government is majorly focusing more on the Hard Power of the political apparatus, which has its roots in realist politics. Realist politics is the basis of all the right-wing policies, monarchies, dictatorships and imperialism. Hard power consists of sectors like defence foreign affairs which strengthen the government. Government is not worried about the common-man it is more about the privatisation of the existing government sectors. These are signs that the government is leading the country away from democratic to an authoritarian form of government. They want to build up the fake nationalism so that they can earn profits out of the people. The drumming of the Indians under one religious banner, while criticising and demonising other communities and ethnicities. They have pushed for an increase of extremist elements in a pre-planned motion, giving them a choice either one is with them or not, its fascism at a rise. Atamnirbhar Bharat is a cover for privatisation, thus removing the government’s responsibilities and liabilities towards its citizens.
The myth of self-reliance is another diversion and distraction for Indian masses. The control of major sectors already has been transferred to the private sector. And one of the last remaining the agriculture is up for sale. Janta government has already passed the laws but the farmers and labours are not in sync. They are up for a fight and they are in it till death. The concept of Atamnirbhar Bharat can’t be sold to this section of society, and their moment is the last beacon of hope against the coming tyranny. India is Atamnirbhar, we fought the British on our own we drove them out, even if our country was divided and our people betrayed by its leaders, it still continued to grow. But now creating an image that we are a country that is highly dependent on other nations, is just falsehood. On the other hand, its the Janta government who is ready to sell, and the 2021 budget clearly justifies that. Atamnirbhar or Nirbhar, until the tyranny, continues nothing is going to make difference.
